Dear Colleagues!
It is a great honor and pleasure to invite you to the 8th International Conference on Virtual Systems and Multimedia (VSMM2002) that will be held in an ancient city of Gyeongju
(alias Kyongju), Korea.
This year¡¯s theme is ¡°Creative Digital Culture¡± that tries to graft innovative technologies on our culture. Five areas are selected carefully to fulfill the theme:
Virtual Heritage, Media Art and Creative Technology, Media and VR Technology, Wireless Life and Culture, and Virtual Medicine/Health Science.
Besides paper presentations there will be Panel Discussions,
Tutorials/Workshops, and Media Art Exhibition, a bold attempt to apply VR and multimedia technologies to explore novel ways to transfer and express artistic ideas to people.
Gyeongju was the capital of the Shilla Kingdom (57 B.C. ~ A.D. 935) throughout its 1,000 year-long history. All over the city, you will find historical relics standing in evidence
to the full glory of the Shilla Kingdom period and thus it is often referred to as the ¡°museum without walls¡±.
Among its numerous tourist attractions are Bulkuksa temple and Sukkuram grotto that were designated by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage sites.
Late September is one of the best seasons in Korea with clean blue skies and beautiful mountain scenery.
Therefore, the family members who are accompanying delegates will also have a great time by exploring historic sites and beautiful mountains in and around Gyeongju.
Finally I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the members of various committees and supporting organizations for their tremendous efforts and help to organize VSMM2002.
The success of this event, however, really depends on your participation and I sincerely hope to see you all at the conference.
