CONFERENCE THEME
In the spirit of defining concrete milestones for virtual reality and
multimedia technologies, VSMM'99 conference will explore Next Generation
VR through five main sessions: 1) Technical, 2) Creative, 3) Commerce,
4) Virtual World Heritage and 5) Gaming and Entertainment. VSMM99 will
integrate these sessions together through an exciting lineup of plenary
sessions, invited talks from world-renowned experts in each field, lectures,
workshops and social activities. We encourage the submission of papers
that approach a topic from one of these five session perspectives. Topics
related directly to virtual reality and MultiMedia applications include:
1)
TECHNICAL
Technical sessions are designed to present technical lectures and workshops
on the research and development of virtual reality and multimedia technologies.
Papers are invited which present innovative research into mixed reality,
artificial life and dynamic worlds, entertainment and games, human interface
and sensing, immersive virtual environments, industrial applications,
robotics, medical and biological, modeling and theory, multimedia, network
and tele-communications, web/Internet.
2)
CREATIVE
Creative sessions are designed from an artistic viewpoint, offering talks
and workshops on innovative solutions, processes, critical debate and
imaginative uses of technology. Papers are invited which explore the areas
of creativity, artistic theory, design, processes, methods and innovative
applications. Main topics include: film, CD-ROM, DVD, web, nonlinear scripting,
interactive performance, interactive TV, theme parks, games and other
areas which use VR and multimedia technology.
3)
COMMERCE
This session will present the development of critical issues relating
to the industry and commercial side of the Virtual Reality and MultiMedia.
Papers are invited which explore the areas of medical, moral, legal, production,
commercialization and trade, political, ethical, marketing, standardization
and common protocol development.
4)
Virtual World Heritage
VSMM98 hosted the first Special Session on Virtual World Heritage, with
the kind support of UNESCO's World Heritage Centre. It brought together
for the first time many experts in the fields of archaeology, history
and technology. It was highly successful and this year will continue with
further exploration. Papers which address architectural and artifact construction,
education, entertainment, historical information presentation, planning
and simulation, 3D geography/remote sensing, GIS, restoration and tourism
are encouraged to submit.
5)
Next Generation Entertainment and Games
VSMM99
will host a special session on Next Generation gaming and entertainment
environments. The computer gaming industry has been a recognized pioneer
in multi-user interactive virtual environments. As we approach the next
generation of high-end virtual reality, it is expected that the computer
games industry will continue to pave the way in dealing with the fundamental
issues of persistence and evolvable environments. Papers exploring virtual
identity, security, evolutionary algorithms and techniques, multi-players
network systems, distributed environments, persistence and evolvable environments,
connectivity of heterogeneous worlds, artificial life, novel hardware,
and psychological effects analysis are invited to submit.
SUBMISSION
PROCEDURE
To present a paper at the conference, a full paper (in HTML format) up
to 10 pages maximum must be registered by 1 May 1999. The reviewing process
is done through an electronic web-based reviewing system. You must provide

golf where the game originated, visit scotch whiskey distilleries like
Glenmorangie and the ancient Glamis castle where Scotland's kings and
queens lived.
