Welcome to the VSMM'99 conference web pages. This year's conference has taken the underlying theme of the experiences of virtual reality use. This fits well into a location that has pioneered significant developments in virtual reality and computer systems: computer games companies, virtual reality companies, early home computers, unique university degree programmes and autoteller manufacturing / research.

In addition, Dundee is one of Scotland's most ancient sites, with a heritage from the arrival of mankind in the area: Stone age forts, Roman occupation, mediaeval capital city, industrial revolution and now a city of information technology and biotechnology.

We welcome all delegates with an interest in virtual reality, its technology and applications. This year we will be particularly looking at three major application areas:

1. computer games - which has seen a thousand-fold increase in platform power in the past years
2. computer arts - an opening field leading viewers into novel artificial aesthetic experiences
3. virtual heritage - one of the most exciting applications of virtualisation

For those friends and family who are accompanying delegates there will also be an alternative daytime programme with visits to quality shops, tourist sites and others

Some Financial Assistance maybe available for anyone submitting a Paper from an Eastern European country which is accepted

So, whatever your interest, we can guarantee you a wide and varied experience. And, don't forget the social programme during the evenings and into Saturday also.
